So with all the new info I’ve been gathering on the Weber – Erbig – Green sides of my family.  A while ago I put together a timeline of events to sort all the little bits of info out to see patterns in their movements.  I thought I’d share some of the timeline I put together so here it is from what I know till 1900.

Erbig – Green – Weber Timeline

Circa 1822-1823: Jacob Green is born in Germany.

Circa 1831: Michael Erbig Sr. is born in Bavaria, Germany. (There are many variant spellings for Erbig. Arbeck, Erbrick & Ebricht are some examples)

Circa 1829-1832: Regina Von Grand is born in Germany (or some name variation like Regina Van Glahn or with the first name of Catherine or Catrina.)

Circa 1832: Julia Arnold is born in Bavaria, Germany.

Circa 1841: George Weber is born in Germany. (This is an arbitrary date that I picked based on a guess that he would have been approximately 25 years old when his son Philip Weber was born.  It is unknown if George ever came to America.)

1847-1849:  Michael Erbig Sr. marries Julia Arnold in Bavaria, Germany.

1849: Michael Erbig Jr. is born in Bavaria, Germany

1849-1853: Sometime between 1849 after the birth of Michael Erbig Jr. and before 1853, Michael Erbig Sr., Julia Arnold Erbig and Michael Erbig Jr. immigrate to America and settle in Jersey City, NJ.

Before 1852: Jacob Green immigrate to America from Germany prior to 1852.

            NO ERBIGS LISTED

Jacob Green, laborer, h  r           212 Morris (There is no Morris as a road in Jersey City anymore) (Is this our Jacob? Probably but I have no information that would confirm or deny this as him.)

 1880: Gospill’s Jersey City and Hoboken Directory – 1880

Michael Erberg, papermkr,   170 Hopkins av (99.9% that this is our Mike as same address as Charles in 1882 and we know that Charles is correct)

Jacob Green, lab,     250 R R av   (Street address Confirmed by 1880 Census as Railroad Avenue)    (There is no Railroad Ave anymore in Jersey City, but the area is certainly full or railroad tracks.)(Jacob’s occupation is also listed as “Laborer” on the 1880 census)

Katie Green (daughter) age 20, born in NJ, Single, works in Tobacco Factory

(is this our Green Family? Katie/Katherine’s birth timing is good but who is sister Annie?  Her name could be             different, hard to read on the census. )

The 1880 Federal Census for Lawrence, Mercer Co., NJ has the family of John Herbig living next door to Philip and Willamta Weber.   We do know that our Philip Weber was married to someone before he married Julia Erbig circa 1901.    This Phillip is a bit younger than ours but information on the Census may be incorrect as I suspect it is as they  list Philip as age 25, wife as 24 daughter as 23 and sons’ as 21 and 17 which obviously is wrong.

1881: Gospill’s Jersey City and Hoboken Directory – 1881

Michael Erbick, lab,      70 Hopkins av (99.9% that this is our Mike as same address as Charles in 1882 and we know that Charles is correct.  This book is full of little typos   so the “70” instead of “170” doesn’t bother me)

Jacob Green, lab,     250 R R av (Street address Confirmed by 1880 Census as Railroad Avenue)

Circa Spring 1881: Charles A. Erbig and Catherine Green married approximately Spring 1881.

Charles E. Erbig, barber, h    170 Hopkins av  (Our Charles was a Barber-Occupation listed on 1900 & 1910 Census) (Charles would be 21 years old this year.  He was not listed in the 1879, 80 or 81 Directories)

Michael Erbig, lab, h    170 Hopkins av    (Same address as on the 1880 census)

NO JACOB GREEN LISTED – But the 1883 Directory has him on Railroad Ave so it’s safe to say he was  still living there in 1882 since he’s listed there in 1881.
